Season Kickoff Letter from the Membership Director
emailed to all registered players on 25 October 2022
emailed to all registered players on 25 October 2022
Colleen Linko, Membership Director
Session One Registration is now closed for Sun Lakes Bocce Club played at Sisk Park. I will be working on Division Assignments this week with the goal of emailing them out a few days prior to our Wine & Cheese Event on Oct 30th.
Sunday Oct 30th - Season Kick-Off: Wine & Cheese Event at Sisk Park at 1pm
This is a club sponsored event, so no need to bring anything but a lawn chair and your calendar so that you can start scheduling matches with the other teams in your Division.
We will be arranging things a bit differently this year to make it easier so that you can identify the other teams in your Division and begin to get to know one another, as well as schedule some of your initial matches. Unfortunately, not everyone who is registered is able to join us on Sunday, but this should give you a good head start on scheduling your matches.
Tables will be set up and labeled with a letter representing each Division. When you arrive, please pick up a name tag and then proceed to the table that is assigned to your Division. If you forget to bring the email with you Division Assignment (or don’t have a printer), I will have extra copies with me on Sunday.
If in the meantime, you want to go to the courts and practice, please know that you may use the club equipment that is located in the locked storage cabinet by Court 2. The combination to unlock the pad-lock is (unredacted in the email message sent to registered players), and there is a copy of the Rules of the Game in each bin with the balls.
If you are new to the club, I would highly recommend that you read Club Play, it is a document that walks you through how the teams are assigned to Divisions, the protocols that club members follow, what to do if a team needs to cancel/reschedule a match (or is a no-show), and how awards are assigned at the end of the Session.
As always, the goal of our club is to have fun playing bocce ball and getting to know your neighbors In Sun Lakes.
Please email siskbocce@hotmail.com with any questions.

We will also be present at the Annual Cottonwood Palo Verde Community Day Open House on Saturday, October 8th, in the San Tan Ballroom, if you would like to learn more about Bocce Ball and the club. Stop by our table to say hello.

Competitive play will begin the following day, on October 31st and run thru January 8, 2023, followed by our Potluck Awards Banquet, on January 15th. The second session kicks off on January 16th and concludes on March 19th, followed by our 2nd session Potluck Awards Banquet to be held on March 26th.

Bocce Ball – Tournament of Champions
February highlighted the Bocce Club’s first of two scheduled tournaments for the year: The Tournament of Champions was held at Sisk Park on Feb. 20. It was a wonderful day, with the weather cooperating. The club’s social directors Karen and Neil Donohoe were on hand early at 10 a.m., preparing hot dogs and baked beans with chips and all the fixings, along with soft drinks and water.
The tournament started at 11 a.m. with the preliminary round, followed by the semi-final round, and concluded with the final round pitting Marie and Tony Racano against Doc Heckler and Mike Buscaglia.
It was a close match, with Doc and Mike taking down the first-place prize of $100, outlasting Marie and Tony 11-9. Third place went to Harley Pansch and Larry Vanderslice, beating Joe and John Terranova 11-6.
The final day for the second session of league play was March 20. The club conducted its Low Hanging Fruit Tournament on March 24.
We concluded our season on March 27 with the second session awards banquet and membership confirmation of our board of directors for the 2022-23 season.
We want to remind all residents interested in the Sun Lakes Bocce Club for the 2022-23 season that the club will continue to provide bocce instruction throughout most of the spring and summer months for those interested in learning to play the game. Simply forward an email to siskbocce@hotmail.com, attention Mike Buscaglia, to request information.
Any Sun Lakes resident can learn more about our club by going to our club website www.sunlakesbocceclub.com.
A special thanks to Greg DePaola, General Manager, Coulter Motor Company of Phoenix, for their first-year sponsorship of the Bocce Club, and to John Skoko, Fleet Sales Manager, 480-940-6001, for his participation in our awards banquet.
Stay well!

BOCCE BALL 2022 - IT'S A NEW YEAR
The first half of the Bocce Ball season (session one) has concluded but it's not too late to join the Sun Lakes Bocce Ball Club for the second season which starts play on January 16th and runs through March 20th. The cost of registration is $25 for a two-member team. The second session will feature two club tournaments, including the "Tournament of Champions" to be held on February 20th and the "Low Hanging Fruit" tournament to be held on March 24th.
As previously discussed, the Club introduced several enhancements prior to the current 2021/2022 season which have been very well received including our new web-site, relocation of the bocce balls next to the courts, addition of spectator benches, etc. Another new feature, recently announced to our club members, is our first Bocce Ball Club sponsor, "Coulter Automotive Group of Phoenix". This addition of a Club sponsor has allowed us to increase the cash payments awards to club members that finish in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in their respective division and/or tournament.
For more information regarding registration and other related club topics, you can simply access the club's website at www.sunlakesbocceclub.com.
On behalf of the Bocce Club Board of Directors, I wish all our Sun Lakes neighbors a very happy and healthy New Year.
